Cities climate neutral through district heating

Over the years, KARA has implemented numerous district heating projects. This allows us to recognize the diverse challenges. These projects were all developed as an alternative to natural gas and to future-proof the heat supply. District heating with biomass allows individual measures to make buildings completely climate-neutral. A well-designed and sustainable heating network is therefore an effective alternative to natural gas at the lowest social cost. KARA builds the heating system and connects it to a distribution station within the city's heating network. Smart technical heat recovery solutions, such as an economizer and a condenser, allow for extra efficient use of the biomass.

TYPES OF BIOMASS for DISTRICT HEATING

Types of biomass suitable for district heating are diverse and energy-rich. Besides wood waste and agricultural residues, other organic materials such as pruning waste, grass clippings, and agricultural waste streams can also be used. These materials are locally available and have a high energy value, making them highly suitable for energy production. In many cases, this is also the result of strong local collaboration, ensuring the efficient use of locally available resources.

Choosing the right biomass depends on availability, energy value, and logistical factors. KARA helps cities make a well-considered choice, taking into account the specific needs and goals of each community.
