Oat husks as biomass for steam generation

Realization of a sustainable biomass installation for the generation of process steam from oat husks. By utilizing a residual stream from the production process as fuel (biomass), sustainable energy is generated for the food industry, and a circular business operation is implemented.

Description of customer needs

A significant amount of oat husks is released during the production of oat products. Rubin Mühle from Germany sought a sustainable solution to no longer dispose of this biomass, but to utilize it optimally for the steam generation of process energy.

The goal was to realize a reliable and efficient biomass plant that converts locally available residual streams into valuable steam. This lowers energy costs, replaces fossil fuels, and further reduces CO₂ emissions.

PROJECT FEATURES

  • Turnkey biomass plant for the food industry
  • Steam boiler with a capacity of 3.5 MW
  • Specially designed for burning oat husks
  • Efficient heat recovery through the use of an economizer
  • Advanced flue gas cleaning with multi-cyclone filter and fabric filter
  • SNCR installation for NOx reduction
  • Complies with applicable emission requirements
  • Maximum utilization of residual streams from the production process
  • Local biomass as a sustainable energy source
  • Reduction of the use of fossil fuels
